During our birthday celebrations, the birthday children choose a special birthday book to read. Candice chose The Birthday Message (Eric Carle). Kellen chose Franklin's Birthday Party.
We also read Snow Dance (Lezlie Evans) & The Tooth Fairy Tells All (Cynthia L. Copeland). I'm sure you can guess why we decided to read Snow Dance this week. It's about time winter shows up on Long Island. The children are very excited to see some serious snow this weekend. We even performed a little snow dance of our own. Let's hope it works.
Speaking of dancing, we've been dancing with scarves to songs such as “Let it Go” and “Freeze” as well as some classical music pieces. We also played the Bubble Game again. The “Freeze” song is not only fun but another way to support children with listening & self-regulation skills.
Our friend, Allison has lost her very first teeth, 2 of them within the past week. We will be discussing dental health next month as February is considered National Children's Dental Health Month. We are working on an in-house field trip with a dental hygienist to explain to our children how important it is to take care of our teeth.
We painted a winter snowstorm at the easel & created “melted snowman” pictures. The children dictated a story about a melted snowman. (Guess who forgot to take a picture? I will post the story on the FB page & in the next newsletter.)
I forgot to mention this in last week’s newsletter: A great big thank you to everyone who donated pajamas for the Scholastic Pajama & Book Drive and a special thank you to Kellen's family. Kellen's mom invited her work colleagues to participate and they donated well over 15 pairs of pajamas. We collected a total of 28 pairs of pajamas. The pajamas have been donated to Long Island Against Domestic Violence (LIADV) located in Central Islip & will be put to very good use.
If you haven’t done so already, now might be a good time to download the “Remind” app for your smart phone. If we have a delay or are closed due to inclement weather, a message will be sent on the Remind app. Our school code is @3ff27. Many of you have already signed up. I will also post on our FB page & it will be announced on WALK radio (97.5 FM) as well. If Sachem Schools are closed, we will be closed. If Sachem has a delayed opening, our morning session will be canceled but the afternoon session will be open.
We look forward to celebrating Luke’s 5th BD & Gianni’s 3rd BD next week.
February book order newsletters are being sent home early. Orders are due by 1/29 in order to ensure delivery before Valentine's Day.
Send the kids in with their mittens next week. We will be playing with the snow in the classroom!
Our next P.J. & Pizza Party will be on 2/12/16 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Registration is open on our website.
Watch out for news regarding a special upcoming event. Hint: You won’t have to dress us when we get up in the morning!
Stay warm & safe this weekend! #Blizzard2016
