The past two weeks have been spent preparing for our Earth Day celebration. We read some wonderful books including Think Green (Jeanine Behr Getz), A Tree is a Plant (Clyde Robert Bulla), This is Our Earth (Laura Lee Benson) and Our Earth (Anne Rockwell). We created some beautiful Recycled Art Collages, painted our own Earth pictures and made “litterbugs” out of egg cartons. We also brainstormed how we can help keep our beautiful Earth clean. Ask us how and we’ll tell you!
Our Earth Day celebration and sing-along was a huge success! We sang our Earth Day songs loud and proud, showed off our Recycled Art Collages and ate some delicious “dirt.” Thank you to all of our families who helped us celebrate!
We are so close to the end of our “Letter of the Week” unit. The past two weeks have had us tracing and walking the letters “W” and “X” as well as learning the signs for these two letters. We made “W” is for Wiggly Worms and “X” is for X-ray pictures. We read My W Book (Jane Belk Moncure) and watched the Storybots “W” and “X” videos. We have also been playing a computer game to identify the sounds of our letters of the week. Next week we move on to the letter “Y.” Can you believe only two more letters to go?! Of course, we will be reviewing all of the letters through the end of the school year to help us reinforce what we have learned.
Our Creative Kids have been showing great interest in superheros during center time, therefore, we are going to begin a superhero unit next week. The children have been invited to bring to school any of their superhero toys that they would like to share in class. We will be discussing what makes a superhero and what are superpowers. Then we will create our own Creative Kids Superhero! The children appear to be very excited about this new unit!
Wishing you all a very happy weekend!
Please do your share for the future of our children. Keep the Earth clean!
