We have been busy these past 2 weeks reading books about farm animals & making muddy footprints. We dipped pig feet into brown paint & stamped them on paper. After the paint dried, we decorated with hay (using raffia) & corn kernels.
Prior to reading There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Cow (Lucille Colandro), we guessed what we thought would happen when the old lady swallowed the cow. Some of our guesses were very funny! During reading, we used an old lady puppet that swallowed the actual farm animals! Then we tried to remember what animals she swallowed without looking at the book or the animals. We also used watercolors to paint some farm animals. As most of you know, I prefer process art activities for children. However, I happened to have this watercolor pad in my farm animals file. Some of the children asked to paint the animals, so, who am I to say no! (No children were forced to paint within the lines during the painting of these pictures.) During circle, we looked at a silly farm poster & discovered many outrageous mistakes pictured in the poster such as polka dotted sheep, a candy cane growing in the cornfield, a strawberry with wings, a farmer riding a goose & a dinosaur next to cows on the farm. We had fun identifying all of the silliness! Ask me what else I remember.
On Thursday, we watched some jets practice for the Jones Beach Air Show from our classroom windows. They were very loud! We also celebrated Stella’s 2nd birthday on Thursday morning with yummy cupcakes. Thank you to Stella’s family for bringing in the cupcakes to help us celebrate! Happy 2nd Birthday, Stella!
We are looking forward to celebrating Tyler’s 4th birthday on Tuesday after we return from Memorial Day weekend.

Looking Ahead
Due to inclement weather, we rescheduled our field trip to the Holtsville Ecology Center for Friday, 5/25. Let’s hope we have sun shine by then! If your plans to attend or not attend have changed based on the new date, please let me know. It’s sure to be a fun day! We will meet at the zoo entrance at 9:00 a.m. We will not be returning to the school & will remain at the Ecology Center until 3:00 or until the children (or parents) have had enough. Remember to pack a lunch/snacks, wipes, diapers if needed & of course, the sunscreen! If we need to postpone once again due to weather, a message will be sent using both the Brightwheel & Remind apps as well as posted on our FB page so be sure to check for any updates. Our next rain date is Friday, 6/1/18. Let’s hope we won’t need to postpone again!
Registration is still underway for Creative Kids Summer Camp 2018 as well as the 2018-2019 school year. If you have verbally indicated that your child will attend but have not yet completed paperwork or sent in the $50 registration fee, please know that I cannot hold your child’s spot. There are no exceptions to this. We are now full to capacity on Wednesday & Friday mornings with both returning & new families who have submitted deposits. A deposit must be made to hold your child’s spot. Registration reminders have been sent home in almost every weekly newsletter since registration began. As much as I adore all of our children & want them to return, I am also running a business & have obligations that need to be fulfilled. Thank you for your understanding. We will begin a waiting list for days that are full.

Quotes
“Your words sow seeds in your children’s hearts. From those seeds spring up either confidence or uncertainty, dignity or dishonor, worth or worthlessness. Your words create the beginnning of their life stories, and they will carry this story with them always.”
(Rebecca Eanes)
