Some of the children have been showing an interest in pirates so we set up our small world center with 2 pirate ships and pirate figures. They have also been making treasure maps at our writing center. We read the book Pirates Go to School by Corinne Demas and finished the sentence, “If I was a pirate, I would...” Check out their answers on our website. Ahoy there, matey!
Our pre-K kids learned the letters/sounds for Ss & Tt.
We reviewed red/green choices during circle time and read some books about being the best me we can be. The children answered the question, “What kinds of choices can you make? Check out our website for their answers.

January, the 1st month of the new year & also the month of snowstorms. Along with the possibility of snow comes the prospect of closings & delays. While we make every effort to remain open, safety is a factor for all of our families & staff. Please note that if Sachem School District closes due to inclement weather, we will also be closed. If Sachem has a delayed opening, we will make every effort to open at our usual time. However, extenuating circumstances might require us to be closed for the morning session. Please tune in to WALK radio (FM 97.5) or check our FB page or the Remind App for closing & delay information.
February 5, 2020 is Global School Play Day. This grassroots effort was created by educators in support of unstructured playtime for students around the world. You can find more information on the website at https://www.globalschoolplayday.com/. In his TEDx lecture, (https://youtu.be/Bg-GEzM7iTk) Peter Gray clearly argues the case that today's kids do not grow up playing and this has negatively impacted them in many ways. On Feb. 5, we will participate in creative, unstructured play all day! If your child has a favorite board game or toy that s/he would like to bring to school, please be sure to label with your child’s name & send it in. No electronic toys allowed.
Valentine’s Day is almost here. We will have a Valentine’s Day celebration during snack time. If you would like to send in Valentine’s cards/treats, we would very much appreciate it. It will also be red/pink day so be sure to dress the children in red/pink for school! We have a total of 12 children in our morning class.

“Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable, but it is a way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder & the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples & pears.
Show them how to cry when pets & people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.”
