Happy February!
Valentine's Day is just around the corner. We began decorating friendship boxes by painting tissue boxes red & pink & decorating them with hearts. We will use these to collect & store our Valentine’s cards.
On Friday, we celebrated FJ’s 4th birthday with delicious cupcakes! Thank you to his family for providing the goodies for us to enjoy! FJ’s mom read us one of his favorite stories, I Am Invited to a Party by Mo Willems. FJ also showed us his very special book about subways. Happy 4th Birthday, FJ!
During our school day, we participate in many dancing & movement activities to combat restlessness, especially during the cold winter months. The children love the dancing, jumping, running & balancing activities, all of which incorporate gross motor coordination, following directions & exercise. We use various equipment such as a small balance beam, hula hoops, parachute & bean bags for additional enjoyment during these activities. Physical activity is a must for youngsters & very important for their growth & development. This week we had a great time crawling through a tunnel & walking on the balance beam.
Please note, that if Sachem School District closes due to inclement weather, we will also be closed. If Sachem has a delayed opening, we will make every effort to open at our usual time. However, extenuating circumstances might require us to be closed for the morning session. Please tune in to WALK radio (FM 97.5) or check our FB page & the Remind App for closing & delay information.

Looking Ahead
February 6 2019 is Global School Play Day. This grassroots effort was created by educators in support of unstructured playtime for students around the world. You can find more information on the website at https://www.globalschoolplayday.com/. In his TEDx lecture, (https://youtu.be/Bg-GEzM7iTk) Peter Gray clearly argues the case that today's kids do not grow up playing and this has negatively impacted them in many ways. On Feb. 6, we will participate in creative, unstructured play all day! If your child has a favorite board game or toy that s/he would like to bring to school, please be sure to label with your child’s name & send it in. No electronic toys allowed.
Valentine’s Day is almost here. We will have a Valentine’s Day celebration during snack time. If you would like to send in Valentine’s cards/treats, we would very much appreciate it. Please make sure treats are peanut & tree free. It will also be red day so be sure to dress the children in red for school! We have 17 children in our morning classes & 11 children in our afternoon classes.
For all of our soon to be Kindergarteners (sniffle, sniffle), registration has begun. Sachem Central registration office is located at Samoset Middle School, Administrative Annex, 51 School Street, Lake Ronkonkoma, Hours are 8 am til 2 pm. The K registration letter & paperwork can be accessed on the Sachem website http://www.sachem.edu/.
CKC registration for the 2019-2020 school year is underway. Paperwork can be found on our website under the “Forms” tab located under “More.” Paperwork will be sent home upon request. Class size will be limited to 12 per session for both summer camp & the school year so be sure to send in your paperwork as early as possible. Once we reach 12 students in a class, a wait list will be provided. Your spot will be held with the nonrefundable $50 deposit. Quote
“Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable, but it is a way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder & the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples & pears.
Show them how to cry when pets & people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.”
Sure hope the groundhog predicts an early spring this weekend! Have a good one!
