It’s Shark Week! What would Shark Week be without the Baby Shark song with fun movements & creating sharks for our classroom.
We painted paper plates with black & white paint. Ask me what color we made when the paint was mixed together. Then we made sharks from the plates by adding fins, a tail & some teeth.
Our week ended with building some castles and aquariums with blocks and cardboard from shipping boxes. Children can always make something from the simplest of materials. Fancy toys aren’t always the way to go. Our youngest learners also began outlining the 1st letter of their names with fish stickers.
My Big World – Thumbs Up for Safety (Scholastic) – While reading this newsletter we learned about water safety & sang a fun song about water safety! We also identified all of the letters in the phrase “Happy Summer.”
The Ocean Story (John Seven)
Ocean Creatures (National Geographic Kids) - This was a fun interactive book to read for even our youngest learners. We counted, identified colors & recalled the various ocean creatures we read about in the book while learning fun facts!
Peanut Butter & Jelly Fish (Jarrett J. Krosoczka) – In this story, PB & Jelly Fish were best friends. Crabby frequently said mean things to them. But when Crabby was caught in a lobster trap, PB & Jelly Fish rescued him anyway. Crabby confessed that he was a bit jealous of the 2 friends. The friends then invited Crabby to explore the ocean with them.
Into the A, B, Sea (Deborah Lee Rose)
We continued working on our Ocean Art projects as well as began creating paper plate sharks. Most of you know I believe process art is much more beneficial for young children but once in a while a craft project is fun! And what would shark week be without some sharks?!
